Pointing your domain name DNS to hosting servers
In order to get your new domain name ‘connected’ to a website you will need to either:
- order one of our web hosting packages OR
- choose another web hosting provider OR
- if you have free web space through your internet service provider, purchase URL Forwarding to direct your domain to that space.
If you have bought a web hosting account from Planet Domain or another provider, you will need to update the DNS values assigned to your domain. The DNS, or domain name servers, contain a set of instructions called a zone file which determine how your domain should behave. In this case they make sure it points successfully to your hosting account.
In order to make changes to your domain’s DNS, you first must login into your member account on our website. Note: this is only available to you if you hold your registration with Planet Domain. Domains purchased via other registrars will need to be accessed directly via the registrars website.
Follow the below steps to modify your domain’s DNS at Planet Domain
1. Log into your Member ID Account
2. Administer your domain name
3. Click on ‘Domain Name’
4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
5. Enter the DNS details you wish to point to in the field provided after “Enter Host Name of name server”
6. Remove any old or incorrect name servers
If you have your Planet Domain registered domain name registered via one of our branded websites follow the below steps.

2. Click the domain name in question
3. Click DNS
4. Click Modify DNS
5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page

You will generally need to enter at least 2 DNS values. The two values are provided by your web hosting company and usually take the form ns#.’hostingprovider.com’.
Linux Hosting domain DNS
If you purchased your Linux hosting service through PlanetDomain – Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, your domain should be assigned:
ns3.ezyreg.com
ns4.ezyreg.com
Windows Hosting domain DNS
If you purchased your Windows hosting service through PlanetDomain – Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, your domain should be assigned:
ns1.planetdomain.com
ns2.planetdomain.com
Once you have made DNS changes you should allow 24-48 hours for these changes to take effect.
Non Hosted users
If you have an IP address that you need to direct your domain to, such as your home DSL or cable connection (your own hosting server) then you may wish to use our name servers:
ns1.planetdomain.com
ns2.planetdomain.com
Use the ‘Modify Advanced DNS’ option within the Modify DNS section of your account to set an A record. If you are running your own hosting server and have a dynamic IP address, you may want to set up a dynamic DNS account from a provider such as www.dyndns.org, www.no-ip.com or www.dnspark.com.
